GRAFT
(2007)
Created in 2007, using a handheld digital camera, this series explores the body as porous and mutable—captured close-up and combined with plant matter and synthetic materials that suggest growth, infection, invasion, or mutation. The photographic effects are intentionally lo-fi, evoking the immediacy of the snapshot and the casual intimacy of experimental self-documentation. Printed on high-gloss paper with metallic undertones, the images reflect a tension between clinical observation and fantastical transformation. Each figure feels suspended in transition—becoming something else without ever fully arriving. Developed alongside Florescence—a parallel body of work featuring hybrid floral forms—Graft marked a turning point from a focus on the body to a broader investigation into botany. Together, these series propose speculative life forms—part natural, part invented—hovering in states of emergence.
